pregnancy

A home pregnancy test is sufficient to confirm your pregnancy and to make an appointment with Dr Hartman.
We also suggest you make a booking at the hospital of your choice as soon as you have made your appointment to see Dr Hartman. For more information on your choice of hospitals and the procedure for making a booking, please see the
“Hospitals” section on our website.

Dr Hartman is totally committed to providing you with the highest quality and most dedicated personal care available. It is his aim that your pregnancy will be a wonderful experience for you and that his expert care will ensure the good health and safety of you and your precious baby.

Your first consultation with Dr Hartman will generally be made at 8-10 weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period. If you have any concerns about the early stages of your pregnancy (for example, if you are experiencing bleeding or severe cramps) prior to your first scheduled appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will arrange an earlier appointment for you.

Your first appointment with Dr Hartman will last for 30 minutes and will involve:

• A discussion about your menstrual cycle, any gynaecological symptoms, any previous pregnancies,
your general medical and surgical history and your family history of cancer and other serious illnesses.
Dr Hartman will also ask standard questions with regard to medications, allergies, drug and alcohol usage
  and your occupation.

• A thorough physical examination which will include taking your blood pressure, and having your abdomen and   breasts checked.

• An abdominal 4D ultrasound to confirm the due date and wellbeing of your baby. The images will be saved for   you onto a memory stick. Throughout your pregnancy more images of your baby can be added, creating a   beautiful keepsake.

• A discussion on options regarding checking the good health of your baby.

• Reviewing any blood tests or other investigative tests you may have undertaken prior to your first appointment.

• A discussion about managing your pregnancy including diet and supplements, exercise, sex, alcohol and   medication usage. Dr Hartman will also provide you with information on antenatal classes, books and websites.

• Addressing any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pregnancy.
